Foundations holding roadshows on Disabled Facilities Grants

The national body for home improvement agencies is staging these free events around the country, to promote best practice in the use of disabled facilities grants (DFGs).

Following up on a successful programme of DFG Champions Roadshows last year

The roadshows are being staged in April and May, and will help link up the many different professionals involved in helping thousands of people to adapt their homes – including home improvement agency staff, occupational therapists and grant officers.

Each event will feature successful case studies on the use of DFGs to help vulnerable people to maintain their independence.

There will also be discussion led by Better Care Fund (BCF) managers around the way in which adaptations can help to deliver BCF plans.

Although the roadshows are particularly useful for professionals, they are open to anyone with an interest in the subject. There is also an associated exhibition of adaptive home equipment.

A new DFG Quality Standard to be developed

Foundations is in the process of developing a DFG Quality Standard, and the roadshows will provide an opportunity to discuss how the accreditation can be measured and implemented.

ADASS will be presenting a draft DFG compact encouraging good practice between county and district councils on how they allocate the DFG monies.

DFGs were placed within the BCF in order to stimulate strategic thinking on how to invest in adapting people’s homes.

Dates for the spring Foundations roadshows

The DFG Champions Roadshow will take place in Bristol (24 April), Sheffield (28 April) and Wolverhampton (5 May).

Further events will be staged later in the year. The DFG Champions Roadshow in London on 3 May is now fully booked.

You can get more information and book a free place on the Foundations website (it will open in a new browser)
