Through-Floor Lifts

image of through-floor lift Going up and down stairs without leaving your wheelchair

A through-floor, or vertical, lift gives people the independence of moving between floors without leaving their wheelchair. It can also be a great solution in situations where the staircase is not suitable for a stairlift, and, for those who are ambulant, there is a smaller size lift.

Modern through-floor lifts are cleverly designed to take up as little room as necessary (come and see one in our showroom if you have concerns about their size).

These lifts are free-standing so they do not need a load-bearing wall. They do, of course, have an impact on your home and our computerised scaled drawings are useful to get an idea of the available space once the lift is installed.

Stairlifts

image of stairlift Glide up and downs stairs the easy way

Stairlifts are motorised seats that glide on a metal rail that is fitted to the stair treads (not to the wall). They can be installed in about half a day with minimum disruption.

Staircases vary widely, as do the people that use them, so we offer a wide variety of models and options of stairlift.

Straight and curved stairlift tracks - the difference

A standard straight flight staircase has no bends or changes in direction, so the track can be straight too. If your staircase looks like the illustration, then you can have a straight track staircase, which is much less expensive.

If one or two of your stairs at the top or bottom are 'winders' or kite-shaped, then you will need a curved track stairlift.

It is best to request our free, no-obligation survey of your staircase because there are certain situations where stairs can be adapted to fit a straight-track. Rest assured our friendly, experienced surveyors will not pressure you to make a commitment - they do not work on commission and will happily offer impartial advice. You could also discuss reconditioned or rental lifts to keep costs down.

All stairlifts feature:

• Battery power

• Choice of chair controls

• Manual or powered swivel seat

• Safety edges to stop the stairlift if there is an obstruction

• Choice of seat belts

• Remote controls for top and bottom of stairs

• Keyswitch to isolate the chair

• Choice of upholstery colour

• Linked foorplate for easy of folding

• Adjustable seat height

Additional options are available such as a powered hinged track to clear track from obstructing a doorway.

Steplifts

image of steplifts Overcoming access problems

Just a couple of steps or a change in levels can prevent you from gaining access to your home in your wheelchair. We offer a few types of lift that can overcome these difficulties. All quotes for these products are accompanied by a computerised scaled drawing so you can visualise the effect.

Coping with a few steps

Steplifts can be fitted indoors or out and there are a variety of platform sizes and rise heights.

Vertical lifting platforms are another option - they come with an interlocked safety gate for wheelchair access.

Managing a flight of stairs

In this situation, an inclined platform lift is the answer. This fits onto an existing or purpose-built, wide staircase and it folds up when not in use to allow pedestrians to pass.

Ceiling Track Hoist

image of ceiling track hoist When carers need help lifting

Ceiling track hoists are a kind of motorised sling - generally used to help someone get from their bed to the bathroom, or from bed into a wheelchair. Carers find them invaluable, they work relatively quietly and make life so much easier.

The hoist is fitted to a track on the ceiling. A sling is placed beneath and around you and attached to the hoist, which then lifts and glides along.

When we do a survey and quote for a ceiling track hoist, we give you a computerised drawing of the track in situ in your home. There are a variety of hoists and slings we can offer, including reconditioned models subject to availability.

Reconditioned and Rentals

image of repair man Reconditioned lifts - secondhand lifts that have been overhauled in our workshop

We offer reconditioned lifts to customers who are looking to save on costs. It is something we can do with confidence, because we only buy back lifts that we have a history for - ones we have installed and maintained ourselves. That way we know the lift has been looked after mechanically. We change parts where necessary and thoroughly overhaul and clean the lift.

It is worth asking our surveyor to quote for a reconditioned lift if this option is of interest.

Rentals

Occasionally, and for a variety of reasons, a customer may not need their lift for long so it makes sense to rent for a while. Our office staff can give details of rental costs for a variety of lifts.

Maintenance and Breakdowns

image of maintenance van Lifts are mechanical and subject to wear and tear and even failure, just like a car.

Once the first year warranty has run out the options are:

• Pay for an annual service and pay for repairs or emergency call-out as and when needed

• Take out a maintenance agreement that covers annual servicing and 24-hour breakdown

Costs vary for different lifts so contact us for details.
