Positioning rolls

T shaped positioning rollsThese rolls are designed to assist in the control of posture when lying. They are for use by people who have little or no mobility, and are unable to alter their position.

Correct use of a roll will help in the prevention of contractures and pressure sores, as well as helping to control spasticity.

It is usually comfortable, and may help to relieve back pain associated with poor posture.

illustration of 't' roll in use C and S Seating provides single 'log' rolls, which are used to stabilise posture when lying on the side, and 'T' shaped rolls, shown left, for control when lying on the back (supine lying).

Made from fire retardant CMHR (Combustion Modified High Resilience) foam, the rolls are available in a range of sizes to suit different users' needs. They can be supplied with either a waterproof or soft-textured terry cloth cover. Spare covers are also available.

Potential users should seek appropriate medical guidance for selection and use of any positioning products.

For use when travelling, 'T' rolls are also available in an inflatable version. These take up much less space when packed, and can be inflated quickly and easily using the supplied pump. The seams are heat-welded for strength and air tightness, and the material meets appropriate flammability standards.

Alternative positioning rolls

alternative positioning rollThis new positioning support has been designed for use where more control of abducted lower limbs is required, or where support in supine lying is desirable to control a windswept deviation of the lower limbs, but adduction contractures preclude use of the 'T' shaped roll. In some cases, the alternative roll may give more control than the straight 'log' roll.

Made from the same fire retardant CMHR foam as the other rolls, the alternative roll allows you to adjust the distance between the support pads to a width of 260mm, 310mm or 360mm.

Please note that this roll is NOT recommended where severe knee flexion contractures prevent the knee from resting on the roll; or in any situation where supine lying may be contra-indicated, for example, where there is a risk of aspiration.

It is always recommended that the lay person seeks appropriate medical guidance before selecting and using these products.
