What is it and can I get it?
New Deal for the over-50s offers help and support to improve your job prospects if you are: aged 50 or over and have been claiming one or more of the following for 6 months or more:
Jobseeker's Allowance
Income Support
Incapacity Benefit
Severe Disablement Allowance
Pension Credit
Or you are the partner of someone who has been getting an increase in benefits for you for 6 months or more
If you receive:
National Insurance credits
Invalid Care Allowance
Bereavement Allowance
You may also be eligible.
Notes
• New Deal is individually tailored to improve your job prospects
• There are different schemes to suit your circumstances.
• Under the New Deal you will have a personal adviser who will help you to look for a job.
There is other help available, including:
• If you work for over 16 hours a week, you can apply for the Working Tax Credit.
• An extra amount is available for people on New Deal 50 plus and is paid for your first 52 weeks in employment. The amount you get will depend on your family circumstances. To find out more, visit the Inland Revenue website or call the helpline on 0845 300 3900 (in Northern Ireland, call 0845 603 2000).
• You can also apply for an in-work Training Grant of up to £1,500 when you get a job through New Deal 50 plus. You can use the grant to improve your skills and help you progress or to get a better job.
• There are Disability Employment Advisers for people with a disability.
