Our trainingOur clients and families want to relax safe in the knowledge that the care choice they have made is of the highest possible standard. That is why we invest heavily in making the quality of carers and the service that they provide the best it can possibly be.
In response to the demand for suitably qualified and experienced carers, Helping Hands has set up a training company, Training Matters, to manage and deliver the process internally. All Helping Hands carers attend an intensive four day Induction Training programme at our Alcester Head Office. The topics covered include Moving and Handling; Health and Safety, Food Hygiene, Safer Handling of Medication, Emergency First Aid, Principles of Care, Role of the Care Worker, Needs of the Service User, Incontinence Care, Basic Infection Control and Abuse Awareness of Vulnerable Adults. Time is also then spent shadowing an experienced carer in a Service User's home.
Once the initial training is complete, we then offer all carers the opportunity to undertake additional training so that they can increase their knowledge of caring for specific conditions. These include Dementia, Parkinsons Disease, Multiple Sclerosis and Learning Difficulties.
Carer Checks
Helping Hands is a certified umbrella organisation within the Criminal Records Bureau, and checks every potential carer before placing them with a client. Every potential carer has to complete a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. The CRB is an executive agency of the Home Office and provides access to criminal records and other information to organisations in England and Wales through a service called Disclosure. Its specific purpose is to help organisations make more informed decisions when recruiting people into positions of trust. Through the Disclosure service, organisations can provide greater protection for the vulnerable members of our society and offer greater protection to their customers, staff, volunteers and ultimately their organisation.
