Adam Thomas is a wheelchair user with 27 years' experience of kitchen design. In 2006 he won the kitchen industry's inaugural Accessible Kitchen Design Award. Adam and his co-director Richard Smithies have created a new range of furniture uniquely adaptable to disabled people's needs, which can be seen in the Naidex show house. The features of the new range include: cabinets that can be built to any height, width and depth to increase the client's capabilities; high-quality hard-wearing doors – laminate for ultimate durability and solid wood, high gloss and hand-painted for ultimate style choice; double doors that can be opened with one hand, sliding and bi-fold doors; Blum 'soft close' drawer runners and door hinges; many innovative cabinet interiors, such as pull-down baskets with assistive technology for ease of use; safe, accessible storage, such as the 'magic corner' cabinet to maximise use of space; a heat-resistant pull-out shelf for under the oven to ensure safety; working effectively with the Ropox range of 'rise and fall' cabinets and worktops. Access Matters furniture is available exclusively through kitchen company Design Matters. |
