| The company is launching the results of their environmental trial, which showed how effective silver is at reducing levels of bacteria on surfaces within an NHS hospital. Superbugs such as MRSA are not just found in hospitals, but are also becoming more common in the community, as patients move from hospitals, to care establishments and back home. New research on the threat of community-acquired MRSA (CA-MRSA) shows that as many as one in five patients who contract MRSA in the community are dead within a year. Everyone can help prevent Healthcare-associated infections by washing their hands, regularly cleaning and now by using products which have a built-in defence against deadly bacteria, such as BioCote. BioCote is a silver agent that is incorporated into products at the time of manufacture, giving their surface protection against harmful bacteria such as MRSA, E coli and Salmonella. The technology helps stop bacteria from multiplying, making products cleaner, safer and more hygienic to use. In a recent trial at the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, BioCote reduced levels of bacteria by up to 95.8% on protected surfaces compared to a non-treated environment and by 92.6% on products, compared to those not treated. The company works with a variety of manufacturers, such as Environmental Hygiene, Sidhil, Deb, Link Lockers and Dyson, who then incorporate the technology into products such as healthcare bins, beds, soap dispensers, lockers and hand dryers. BioCote is also effective against Black Mould (Aspergillus niger), which is common in moist environments such as washrooms and kitchens. |
