New Hybrid-Power Cushion
Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare’s latest pressure care solution
The Hybrid-Power cushion changes in line with pressure damage risks
The Hybrid-Power cushion assists with the management of pressure ulcers while seated, which is just as important as when in bed.
If a patient’s risk level changes, the product has the ability to be ‘stepped up’ to an alternating cushion, and can also easily be ‘stepped down’ to a static cushion when required.
This change is achieved by simply adding the pump unit or taking it away, thus giving the carer both options at their fingertips.
When stepping up or stepping down there is no requirement for the patient to be moved from the seated position.
Designed with safety and functionality to the fore
The pump features a low-pressure alarm and indicator to alert the carer that assistance is needed when in alternating mode. An automatic lock-out function is also included, to reduce the risk of the pump being accidentally tampered with when in use.
The visco-elastic foam of the Hybrid-Power cushion conforms to the shape of the patient’s body, while the alternating cells assist with pressure relief. High frequency welded seams reduce the risk of fluid ingress and can withstand a higher concentration of cleaning substances, protecting the cushion against chemical damage when cleaning.
The Hybrid-Power Cushion offers a weight limit of 30 stones, catering for a wide range of patients.
In addition to Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare’s new Hybrid-Power Cushion the company also has a mattress system using the same technology.
The functions of the mattress are the same as those of the cushion, allowing for ‘step up’ and ‘step down’ to be achieved in bed or while seated. This provides total pressure ulcer protection in the vulnerable areas.
The cushion and mattress use the same pump unit reducing purchasing costs as only one pump is required.
The Hybrid-Power Cushion is in use within a number of sites throughout the UK where positive feedback has been received. A clinical study is also underway and the results of this study are expected to be published later in the year.
